The Roman Catholic parish of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Łozina, belonging to the Trzebnica Deanery of the Archdiocese of Wrocław, is one of the oldest church communities in the region – its origins date back to the 14th century. It provides pastoral care to the faithful from Łozina and the surrounding villages of Bąków, Bierzyce, Budziwojowice, Bukowina, Godzieszowa, Kępa, Łosice, Michałowice, Tokary, and Zaprężyn, with a total population of approximately 2,883 residents.
The heart of the parish’s spiritual life is the Baroque parish church at 5 Wrocławska Street, while a special sign of its identity is the Regional Sanctuary of Our Lady of Sorrows, Health of the Sick, located in the subsidiary church dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows in Łozina. The sanctuary forms an integral part of the parish and gives it a unique pilgrimage character.
The central point of the sanctuary is the miraculous image of Our Lady of Sorrows, dating from the mid-17th century. The image, crowned in 1930 in Tuligłowy, was rescued after World War II by Fr. Antoni Baszak and brought together with the faithful to Lower Silesia. Since 1948 it has been kept in Łozina, where it quickly became a source of vibrant Marian devotion and a place of prayer especially for the sick and suffering.
In 1986, Cardinal Henryk Gulbinowicz officially expanded the sanctuary’s title by adding the invocation Health of the Sick, emphasizing its ministry to those experiencing illness, pain, and life’s hardships. In the Jubilee Year 2000, Łozina was established as a regional center of Marian devotion.
The parish conducts regular pastoral ministry through liturgy, sacraments, and numerous devotions. Holy Masses are celebrated in Łozina and in the chapel dedicated to the Holy Trinity in Godzieszowa. The parish communities include the Living Rosary, the Altar Servers, and the Circle of Friends of Radio Maryja. Important events in the parish calendar include the patronal feasts on August 15, September 15, and the Solemnity of the Holy Trinity, as well as the 40-hour devotion before Ash Wednesday and the Perpetual Adoration on May 23.
Today, the parish in Łozina, under the leadership of parish priest Fr. Zbigniew Stokłosa, combines centuries-old history with the living faith of the contemporary community, remaining a place where everyday pastoral ministry naturally intertwines with the mission of the sanctuary – a space of prayer, hope, and Marian entrustment.
